The Yankees were willing to spend for Manny Machado, just not enough to ultimately get him.

In the team's Dec. 19 meeting with the free-agent infielder, it is believed Machado was given the idea he could get a deal worth at least $220 million from New York, according to Fancred Sports.

There is "no evidence" he was ever given an official offer.

Machado reportedly agreed to sign a record 10-year, $300-million deal with the Padres on Tuesday. Many reports came out this offseason suggesting the four-time All-Star preferred to play for the Yankees and Fancred Sports suggested the same thing with this recent report.

However, he was rumored to want a deal in the $300-million range and that is exactly what the Padres gave him.
