Yangervis Solarte is headed west.
The Giants added another veteran presence to their stash of position players on Friday by reportedly agreeing to a deal with Solarte, just a couple of days after inking Gerardo Parra on a minor-league deal.

Solarte, who spent last season with the Blue Jays, hit 17 home runs with a .655 OPS while playing every infield position, though most of his time was spent at third and second base.

The Giants have Evan Longoria and Joe Panik at those positions, respectively, but both dealt with injuries last season, making Solarte a strong insurance policy. Their bigger hole is in the outfield, but Solarte has only played there briefly — seven games in 2014.
Solarte spent the first four seasons of his career with the Yankees and Padres, with his best season coming in San Diego in 2015, when he posted an .808 OPS in 109 games.
