Wieters, 32, has spent 10 years in MLB with the Orioles and Nationals. He was limited to just 76 games last season for Washington because of a hamstring injury.
He will join the Cardinals with a career .251/.315/.410 slash line and will have a chance to serve as a backup to Yadier Molina.
The news of the acquisition comes the same day St. Louis and starting pitcher Miles Mikolas agreed to a four-year, $68 million extension.
