With Yoenis Cespedes done for the season and Jay Bruce still sidelined, the Mets added another veteran outfielder Friday in free agent Austin Jackson.
Fancred was first to report a deal was done. Jackson, 31, is expected to join the Mets immediately, though he hasn't seen game action since July 7. The Giants traded him to the Rangers the following day, and Texas immediately designated him for assignment before eventually releasing him.
Jackson slashed .242/.309/.295 in 59 games for San Francisco. He has seen limited playing time the last few seasons for the Giants, Indians and White Sox. A former Yankees draft pick, he reached the majors with the Tigers and has also played for the Mariners and Cubs.
Jackson, a center fielder much of his career, likely will share time with Jose Bautista and Matt den Dekker as the Mets (43-57 entering Friday) play out the string.
