Tigers' Miguel Cabrera hits 400th homer, waits out rain to make it official image

Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera reached a couple of milestones Saturday, but they required a measure of patience thanks to Mother Nature.

The five-time Silver Slugger hit his 400th career home run in the top of the first inning of Detroit's 4-3, 10-inning victory over the Cardinals. A 1-hour, 20-minute rain delay in the bottom of the inning halted the game before it could become official.

On top of reaching the 400-home run plateau, Cabrera also passed Andres Galarraga for most career homers by a Venezuelan-born player.

Saturday marked the third straight day in which Cabrera has homered — he hit two Thursday in a Tigers win — and he now has 10 home runs this season to complement a sterling .333 batting average.
