Daniel Murphy injury update: Rockies infielder expects to go on IL with broken finger image

Daniel Murphy is fighting off the injury bug again.

The 33-year-old infielder told reporters he fractured his left index finger in the Rockies' win over the Marlins on Friday and expects to go on the injured list.

Murphy signed a two-year, $24 million deal with the Rockies in the offseason. He was expected to fill the hole in the lineup DJ LeMahieu left when Colorado decided not to re-sign him.

Murphy missed 71 games last year as he recovered from offseason knee surgery.

It is possible Ian Desmond could see more time in the infield with Murphy out, and players like Garrett Hampson and Raimel Tapia could play center field as Desmond vacates that spot. Colorado could also turn to Mark Reynolds and Ryan McMahon to fill in for Murphy at first base.
