Hall of Fame pitcher and current MLB analyst John Smoltz qualified for the U.S. Senior Open on Thursday during a qualifying event in Georgia.
Smoltz, 51, renewed his closer mentality to win a three-man playoff at the 18-hole event to claim the third and final qualifying spot.

An eight-time All-Star, Smoltz finished his 21-year career with a record of 213-155 with 154 saves and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2015 — his first year on the ballot.
His love for golf has been well-documented in recent years as he revealed last year he and fellow Hall of Fame pitchers Tom Glavine and Greg Maddux once played 73 of the top-100 courses in the nation during a single season while they were members of the Braves.
The U.S. Senior Open Championship take place June 28-July 1 at The Broadmoor-East Course in Colorado Springs, Colo.
