Despite their rivalry at the Qatar World Cup finals playing for their respective countries, Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi are on the same page when it comes to their fashion choices.
The Paris Saint-Germain players and their teammates entered into an exclusive partnership with Dior Homme's artistic director Kim Jones- the collaborators unveiled the latest collection as part of the team's 2022-2023 season official wardrobe.
One of the most celebrated menswear designers of the decade, Jones is the mastermind behind some of the French fashion house's most recognisable looks, including his crossover capsule collection of graphic tees with American artist Kaws.
Jone's designs for the PSG team include both casualwear and tailored looks for official team engagements. Instead of the blue and red team colours, Jones opted for a black and white collection of Harrington jackets, knitted sweaters and polo shirts.
The Paris Saint-Germain patch is embroidered alongside Christian Dior's 'CD' monogram. Jones completes the look with monogrammed duffle bags for the jet-setting players, as well as cashmere scarfs, silk ties and belts.
Designer collaborations with athletes and sports teams have become powerful tools for marketing. International sporting events such as the recent World Cup and the Olympics are opportunities for designers to build brand loyalty and gain global exposure.
Dior isn't the first luxury fashion house tasked to outfit a sports team- Hugo Boss has a long-standing partnership with Real Madrid C.F., dressing the team in its signature tailored suits and athleisurewear, while Giorgio Armani created exclusive looks for Italy's national football team.
