Could iconic Cronulla snap replace Provan-Summons Trophy?
Could this image one day take the place of the iconic Provan-Summons embrace on the NRL’s grand final trophy?
Plenty of Sharks fans reckon it should, especially after the emotional snap – titled 50 Years of Tears - won the country’s most prestigious photographic award.
The evocative picture of Cronulla captain Paul Gallen and club great Andrew Ettingshausen - captured by the NRL’s lead photographer and mad Sharks fan Grant ‘Chucky’ Trouville’ seconds after the 2016 grand final – took out the Walkley award for photograph of the year.
It’s the first sports picture to win the award.
Trouville sprinted from behind Cronulla’s in-goal area onto ANZ Stadium to get the once-in-a-lifetime image.
He said: “This image shows the outpouring of emotion from the last 50 years for the Cronulla Sharks.
The two greatest ever players to put on the Sharks jersey coming together. A thank you from the former captain and club legend to the current captain. The trophy cabinet will never be empty again."
It’s got our vote.
Foran flogs family home
Kieran Foran’s final link to Manly was severed last weekend with the sale of his northern beaches home.
The family home Foran bought with partner Rebecca Pope at Freshwater sold before auction for a tidy $3.055m.
The five-bedroom house, complete with swimming pool and diving board, was bought for $2,510,000 just 20 months ago.
It’s appreciated $545,000 – or around $1000 a day – during that time.
“It had proved to be a great property for the kids and I am sad to see it go,” Foran said recently.
Peeved Peats off the mark
NSW hooker Nathan Peats showed his complete lack of understanding of how the media works in implying breaking news of NRL players consorting with criminals was deliberately timed to ruin the start of the World Cup.
Wtf?
The story was leaked to journos by police and those in the know weren’t about to check the rugby league itinerary before going with the story.
But Peats wasn’t wearing that.
He believes the yarn – in which it’s alleged crime figures plied players with prostitutes and drugs in a bid to extract valuable betting information – was dropped to cause major damage to the World Cup opener.
“Story may or may not be true but the timing (is) on purpose,” Peats tweeted.
On the eve of the World Cup another story comes out and tarnishes rugby league. Story may or may not be true but the timing in on purpose

Stick to footy, Nathan.
Baz and Des swapping stories
Spotted: Trent Barrett and Des Hasler in deep discussion in a corner of the room at an Ashes cricket function in Sydney on Friday.
In-coming Manly CEO Lyall Gorman was at a nearby table.
We know what the topic of conversation was between Hasler and Barrett but have been sworn to secrecy!
