They love to hate in the NRL

Valentine's Day.

The time of the year when love is in the air – unless you're involved in the dog-eat-dog, friend-turned-foe world of rugby league.

Then it's just pure hatred.

We're pretty sure these NRL 'couples' won't be swapping Valentine's cards or shooting Cupid's arrow come February 14.

Pappas don't preach

We had to read this three times before realising South Sydney chairman Nick Pappas's Twitter feed had not been hacked and he was fair dinkum.

God help us all if this is the attitude of one of the NRL's highest ranking club bosses.

Two of his players are involved in serious incidents overseas and arrested yet they escape heavy sanctions and the whole thing is neatly swept under the carpet once the bumbling NRL Integrity Unit's blink-and-you'll-miss-it investigation gave it the all-clear.

Sutton is removed as skipper but Michael Maguire and Shane Richardson tell the media there is nothing to see here and we all should all move on.

Once again it's left to the media to do the dancing and uncover the real story, embarrassing Souths and the NRL in the process.

And Pappas is okay with all this? What a joke.

Last orders for Stewart boys

We told you last year of the Stewart brothers' plans to open a late night food kiosk smack bang in the middle of the Manly Corso.

To say it went down like a dodgy kebab with locals was something of an understatement, with critics lining up to pan the idea of a 50sq m rectangle serving fast food to hungry pub patrons.

Manly Council received 18 submissions to the plan, with only one in support.

The boys have not dumped the proposal but shelved it for another day.

But we don't like their chances of getting the green light anytime soon.

"The location is totally inappropriate and contrary to all Manly’s planning codes, and it’s not in the public interest. I hope they’ve taken that on board and realise it’s the end of the matter," one unimpressed councillor said

Peachey keen for return

The Lurker hinted at it last week and the mail is going stronger that Penrith's Tyrone Peachey is eyeing a return to Cronulla.

Peachey is enjoying his football at the Panthers but is said to be missing life at the Sharks.

One of Lurker's most trusted sources told him Shane Flanagan is 'working overtime' to get the Peach back to the Shire.

We will watch with interest.
