England rugby union international Sam Burgess has been linked with an NRL return, but the South Sydney Rabbitohs were unwilling to be drawn into reports.

Burgess, 26, has been given leave by Bath to consider his future, according to the BBC.

The former rugby league star, who played for England at the Rugby World Cup, is widely linked with a return to the Rabbitohs.

Burgess helped South Sydney to their first NRL grand final win in 43 years in 2014, claiming the Clive Churchill Medal in the decider.

Contacted by Omnisport on Thursday, the Rabbitohs declined to comment on recruitment – saying Burgess was contracted to Bath.

Burgess played for the Bradford Bulls before joining South Sydney in 2010, starring for the club as they ended their premiership drought.

His brothers Tom and George recently re-signed with the Rabbitohs.
