According to Wide World of Sports, the 69-year-old has been introduced to the NRL by some Australian friends and is looking to buy the St George Illawarra club as a way to fuel his new-found passion.

While the injection of such significant money at the club would surely be a blessing, the report states that officials at the Dragons are reluctant to hear any sort of offer out on the assumption their jobs could be at risk should Thani takeover.

The Dragons have struggled on the pitch in recent years having made the finals just once in the past six seasons.

Thani, with ten children to his name, owns more 20 hotels around the world and has a museum dedicated to preserving Qatar's history named after him.
