After much discussion over who would fill Johnathan Thurston's considerable shoes, Walters was left weighing up between Michael Morgan and Munster for the position with the Maroons ultimately opting to let Munster debut in the role he is most familiar with at club level.

The decision means Morgan will start from the centres with another Origin debutant in the form of Ben Hunt assuming Morgan's former spot as a utility off the bench.

Walter's has also turned to Storm forward Felise Kaufusi as his 18th man with the in-form second rower making it seven Melbourne players in the Maroons squad for Game III.
