Manly coach Trent Barrett said he found support from Cronulla Sharks opposite number Shane Flanagan as the Sea Eagles toiled through a disastrous 2018 for the club so far.
The Sea Eagles have been affected by ongoing salary cap dramas which saw the club fined and restricted from signing players.
Later down the track, the Gladstone strip club incident left a question mark on the team's leadership following an altercation between captain and star halfback Daly Cherry-Evans and fellow teammate Jackson Hastings.
Add a whopping injury toll which no NRL club would envy, and one would think Barrett's men would never be able to escape the big hits.

However, Barrett and Manly have come out the other end of a dramatic few months to show what they can do on the field after demolishing the Broncos in Brisbane 38-24 on Saturday.
The Sea Eagles are currently sitting in 12th on the ladder with a 3-7 record after ten rounds.
On Monday, Barrett told Sky Sports' Big Sports Breakfast that external support was crucial to getting through his fair share of debacles.
"We've got a lot of support from some close friends," Barrett said.
"The other coaches are probably the key to getting you through times like that and reminding you that every coach goes through it.
"I did have a fair few talks to Flanno, we all the know issues that Flanno had down there at Cronulla.
"I guess the advice is just to ride it out and stick to what you believe in, and things will turn and they all turned out to be right.
"I've always had good support here, I've got good staff here, and you've got good mates around you."
Barrett was also hopeful the signing of Trent Hodkinson would be confirmed later on Monday ahead of his side's clash against the Storm in Melbourne on Saturday.
The resurgent Sea Eagles are considered a strong chance to upset the defending premiers, who could be without their captain Cameron Smith, who was charged with a 'wishbone tackle' and is facing a two-match suspension.
"If we get (Hodkinson) in early enough during the week, we'll have two sessions this week - the way we play and his role in the team, he's an experienced player and it'll be pretty seamless," Barrett said.
"I'll make that decision once he gets in here.
"It'd be a bonus if he was available to be selected and we'll make that decision after we get a better look at things this week."
Hodkinson first debuted at Manly in 2010 and has played 160 NRL matches across stints with the Bulldogs, Newcastle and Cronulla.
The New South Wales State of Origin representative has played six games for the Blues.
