The committee includes the likes of NRL CEO Todd Greenberg, Knights chairman Brian McGuigan and NRL head of club services Tony Crawford.
According to Crawford, the time is right to begin a transition of the club's ownership.
"A sale will only proceed when we have the right buyer for the club, the Newcastle community and the game," Crawford said.
"This committee will recommend the most appropriate way of transitioning the ownership of the Knights, at the appropriate time."
Their task is a simple one - present a plan to the NRL commission that details the most appropriate method of ownership transition.
While its been stressed the sale of the club is not imminent, the governing body has stated it will not be a long term holder of any club license.
