After conceding a try at the death, the Knights were then given a controversial penalty with 20-year-old Brock Lamb unable to convert his penalty attempt on the siren and push the game into golden point.
Considering Trent Hodkinson had converted all three prior two-point attempts for Newcastle, many were surprised Lamb was handed such a high pressure kick and Hodkinson admits he probably should've taken it.
"I probably should’ve taken that one," he said on Triple M NRL after the game.
"I feel for him.
"I thought the penalty was on the 40-metre line and obviously Lamby has got the bigger boot.
"He slots them over there at training all the time.
"When he lined it up it was on the 30 and I didn’t want to take it off him because he was zoned in."
