After feeling the pain of an Origin defeat, Blues winger Brett Morris has announced his retirement from all representative rugby league.

The 30-year-old Bulldog has played 15 times for New South Wales scoring five tries while also making 18 appearances for Australia across 2009 to 2015.

Having won just 4 of the 15 Origin games he featured in, Morris didn't enjoy the best of times in a Blues shirt but hangs up his representative boots with undeniable pride.

"It was an absolute honour to wear the Blues jersey for one last time," he wrote on Instagram.

"I'm so proud to have been able to represent my state and my family in the toughest arena of all and have now made the decision to retire from rep football.

"I've loved the journey and made so many good friends along the way.

"Most of all I want to thank my beautiful family for sticking by me through the good times and the bad.

"I wouldn't be where I am today without you and I love you with all my heart."

Though on the losing side on Wednesday night, Morris did produce a remarkable try-saving tackle on Cooper Cronk late in the first half which kept NSW in the contest heading into the break.

While Morris' departure leaves yet another question mark over an already debated Blues side, there will be no shortage of willing wingers putting up their hands with Penirth's Josh Mansour a ready-made replacement.

It's currently unclear why Morris has made the decision to step away from representative rugby league, but his Canterbury coach Des Hasler will undoubtedly be happy to have his winger fully available in 2018.
