Wonder mare Winx has proven her champion credentials yet again after chasing down Happy Clapper to win the $600,000 Chipping Norton Stakes at Royal Randwick.

Happy Clapper set the pace and lead by seven lengths as they reached the final turn, keeping viewers on their heels.

But Winx managed to find another gear and began to take over with 100 metres left on the straight, claiming her 31st consecutive win by a length over Happy Clapper.

With the win, Winx passed Hurricane Fly, the Irish Willie Mullins-trained horse who had won 22 Group 1 wins.

It's Winx's second victory in a fortnight after her flawless return to the track in the Apollo Stakes, again beating Happy Clapper.

The Chris Waller-trained horse is aiming for two more races in Sydney - the George Ryder and Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

Winx was priced at just $1.08, but that didn't deter punters with one brave person placing a record bet of $280,000 on the champion horse minutes before the race.

Waller had six of the seven Chipping Norton Stakes runners.

An emotional Waller was teary in front of the cameras, blown away by Winx's stardom.

''My heart starts beating when she's on the track, and it stops beating when she comes off safely,''

''I can see the sun going down. Hopefully we can get through two more runs.''
