Bruce McAvaney is Winx's number one fan, but as much as he adores the champion racehorse, the legendary commentator still had a moment of doubt before she notched her 27th consecutive win.
In another signature come-from-behind run, jockey Hugh Bowman left fans on their heels with a later than usual charge on the straight at Royal Randwick.
For a moment, to McAvaney at least, it appeared Winx's winning streak had come to a shock end as she trailed Le Romain with only a few hundred metres to go.
“She’s in trouble,” McAvaney said after biting his nails.
Then the magic happened.
The $1.10 odds were justified as Winx stormed home to win the Group 1 $500,000 1600m George Main Stakes on Saturday, becoming the first horse to tally 20 Group 1 wins.
McAvaney pounded his desk in excitement, jumping with joy on the Channel Seven panel.
“She’s got it,'' he said.
“She’s just colossal.''

Winx's total prize money has now reached over $20 million as she stares down breaking Black Caviar's Group 1 win record of eight consecutive victories.
