Derby Day: Lexus Stakes start delayed as A Prince Of Arran wins into the Melbourne Cup image

The start to the Lexus Stakes on Derby Day at Flemington was delayed on Saturday after the photo finish camera lost power prior to the race.

All the runners were in the barriers ready to go when the field was backed out and walked around behind the stalls.

The race was due to jump at 1:40 but didn't get underway until 1:53 as the issue with the camera was sorted out.

Once it finaly got underway, Charlie Fellowes' stayer A Prince Of Arran booked himself into the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday with a strong win.

Brimham Rocks and Jaameh rounded out the places in the Lexus.

The feature race on the day, the AAMI Victoria Derby, also had a Melbourne Cup hopeful in favourite Thinkin' Big, though the fierce speed on the race saw the on-pacers drop off in the straight.

Extra Brut for Darren Weir and John Allen took advantage, storming home down the outside to win from Stars Of Carrum and Chapada.
