Mr Brightside has claimed its first Group 1 victory, winning the $3 million Doncaster Mile at Royal Randwick on Saturday.
The four-year-old, trained by brothers Ben and JD Hayes, had been travelling soundly this preparation and was coming off a solid run in the All-Star Mile a fortnight ago, finishing in fourth place behind the winner Zaaki.
But rated an outside chance with TAB pre-race, it took plenty of punters by surprise to see Craig Williams steer the gelding home to victory.
Williams was able to split the well-supported I'm Thunderstruck and last year's runner up Icebath in the final furlong, holding on for a half-length victory.
Pre-race favourite Forbidden Love finished in fourth place after sitting near the lead for the majority of the race, before falling away in the final 100m despite carrying the light-weight of 50kg under jockey Jamie Kah.
