Golden Eagle: I'm Thunderstruck kicks late to win $7.5m Rosehill race in thrilling finish image

New Zealand contender I'm Thunderstruck has won the $7.5 million Golden Eagle, coming over the top in a thrilling finish at Rosehill on Saturday.

The four-year-old, trained by Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr, was ridden to perfection by Hugh Bowman, taking the lead in the last 15m to pip Count De Rupee to the line.

With 300 metres to go, I'm Thunderstuck was in seventh position with a mountain of distance to make up on leader Apache Chase, but Bowman timed the gelding's run to hit the lead in the final stages.

Gai Waterhouse-trained Vangelic claimed third, while Apache Chase crossed in fourth position.
