Golden Rose 2023 betting preview
Close to half the field find themselves in betting contention, with five horses at single-figure odds heading into the Group 1 event for three-year-olds at Rosehill.
Cylinder ($4.20) has emerged as the slight outright favourite and rightfully so, winning in four of eight career starts to date and only missing out on a place once. With two wins already this preparation, the James Cummings-trained colt looks primed for a strong showing in the Golden Rose.
Also near the top of the market is Golden Slipper winner Shinzo ($5.50), who will be resuming after a six-month break and brings plenty of class to the race, while Militarize ($5.50) is receiving plenty of support despite a fifth-placed finish first-up in the Group 2 Run to the Rose a fortnight ago.
King Colorado ($5.00) and Charm Stone ($6.00) both come into the race with solid early careers and will be in the mix, while Encap ($13) has placed or emerged victorious in all five of his career starts to date.
According to Blake Johnston of The Leg Up Australia, Victorian-based filly Charm Stone can overcome history and take out the $1 million race, while co-host Nick Lloyd is tipping market mover Militarize to come out on top.
