Rosehill will host its final major raceday of the spring carnival, with the running of the $10 million Golden Eagle set for Saturday.

The race will be run over 1500m and features the best four-year-old horses in the country under set-weight conditions. Since its introduction in 2019, it has become the world's fourth richest race on turf behind The Everest, Melbourne Cup and Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.

The winning connections will take home $5.25 million, with I'm Thunderstruck taking out last year's event. The other two past winners of the race are Colette and Kolding.

The feature event on the updated stacked 10-race card at Rosehill will be run at 4.45pm AEDT.

Golden Eagle 2022 tips

It's a mammoth field in the $10 million Golden Eagle, but after our recent efforts in finding the Cox Plate quinella and Manikato Stakes winner last weekendThe Sporting News will do our best to back it up.

Overseas runner Light Infantry ($3.30) sits atop the market heading into the race, linking up with the successful Maher/Eustace stable. The colt has an impressive career record to date, boasting two wins and two placings from just five starts, and will come into the race fresh after an 11-week break.

Chain Of Lightning ($6.50) has been kept fresh throughout this preparation, racing just four times since the start of August and has received plenty of support in the market. With six wins from seven starts, it's hard to fault the mare's form and her most recent win in the G2 Tristarc Stakes was an eye-catcher. Jamie Kah will come up from Melbourne for the ride and with an inside draw, this race is well within her grasp.

Also near the top of the market is In The Congo ($11), who will be third-up for this race and finished a narrow second in his last start in the G3 Sydney Stakes. With a Group 1 success in his career already, he certainly has the ability to take this race out but would need to step up.

I Wish I Win ($12) has been in reasonable form, finishing fifth in the G1 Toorak Handicap and winning a listed race as a short-priced favourite prior to that. Racing expert Ryan Phelan is tipping the talented Moody-trained galloper to come out on top in the Golden Eagle.

“I like taking on international jockeys and horses on our shores," he told The Sporting News.

"I’m looking to a local and tipping a world-class local at that – Peter Moody, the trainer of Black Caviar fame, has three horses in this race. The best of them is I Wish I Win.

"This horse simply got too far back last start in the Toorak, but the stable thinks he is a star and if Luke Nolen can get luck in running, I can see I Wish I Win overpowering them in the straight."

Fangirl ($15) and Hinged ($13) are both quality horses from the Chris Waller stable and are capable of rising to the occasion for this race.

One of the X-factors in the race is overseas galloper Welwal ($23), who will link up with Waller and has the legendary Frankie Dettori in the saddle. In seven career starts, the colt has won three races and two of those have come over the 1500m trip, making a potential win or placing not out of the realm of possibility.

Gypsy Goddess ($13) has a fantastic career record to date, producing six wins and three placings from nine starts including the G1 Queensland Oaks. The talented mare will be first-up for this race and has previously won two-from-two while fresh, and with Will Pike given the ride for David Vandyke, it shapes as a potential place-getter.

Mr Mozart ($18) has two wins from two starts at this distance, while Vilana ($19) has shown plenty of ability across eight career starts. Neither runner should be overlooked in this race, but both will need to overcome wide barriers.

But for us, we're leaning towards the impressive Chain Of Lightning for Jamie Kah and Peter Moody to win, and a place bet on the overseas runner Welwal.

FINAL TIP: Chain Of Lightning ($6 win with TAB) / Welwal ($6 place with TAB

RYAN PHELAN'S EXPERT TIP: I Wish I Win ($12 with TAB
