The Spring Racing Carnival is one of the biggest and best events on the Australian sporting calendar, capped off by Australia's most historic and popular race, the Melbourne Cup.

It is set to swing into full gear with Derby Day on Saturday, which is one of the best days of racing in the world with every race classified as either a group three or higher.

Along with this, Rosehill is set to light up with the inaugural running of the Golden Eagle, which has become Australia's third-richest race.

As we sit under one week from the 'race that stops the nation', this is the time where all the so-called 'experts' come out from the shadows to give their predictions and picks.

Fickle, where were they at 2 am on a Saturday/Sunday night backing anything Warren Kennedy rides at Greyville?

Anyways, I digress, with the biggest race around the corner, here at Sporting News we have compiled a list of tips from all the characters around the offices/traps for Saturday.

Nathan: Vegas Jewel has impressed in all three of her runs, most recently in the Ethereal Stakes, the Mark Kavanagh-trained horse has drawn perfectly in barrier five and should get a great run in the Wakeful Stakes.

Justin: Wife's boyfriend is backing Sunlight in the Golden Rose, seems to make good decisions and appears to know what he's talking about.

Wade: Golden Eagle, number 4 Inevitable. Good each-way hope and Brutal is a slight deserved favourite

Shannon: Arcadia Queen in the Golden Rose, my mate's dog walker's cousin is a part-owner and has tipped it for big things.

John: Shadow Hero looks really hard to beat from my limited knowledge in the Victorian Derby. In the Cantala Stakes, I’ll have $10 on Star of the Seas largely because of this tweet I saw earlier in the week.

Rick: Derby, can’t go past Shadow Hero.  The Golden Eagle I’ve gone Kolding and The Inevitable.  Downdraft in the Lexus.  Melody Belle in the Empire Rose and $5 on Broadwayandforth in the Coolmore purely because she’s beaten my horse and has been flying.

Daniel: I like Winx in the Victorian Derby. Wait, what do you mean it's not running?

Lachlan: Melody Belle in the Empire Rose Stakes is a good shout. It's the favourite but it's won in its last three races so it should go close.

Brandon: Urgh, do I have to. Fine, Star of the Seas in the Cantala Stakes, heard some blokes talking about it on the train so I guess it will run well.

Liam: Dalasan in the Carbine Stakes, with the drop-down in class and a much friendly barrier draw, jockey Hugh Bowman will be primed for a big race on the three-year-old.

Marty: Load up on Melody Belle in the Rose Stakes to make a boat-load. At least I hope so, I've already bought myself a boat with the winnings.

Renee: You sure this is for an article and not you just planning your bets for tomorrow. Alright then, I like Bivouac in the Coolmore Stakes, should run well. Also, Shadow Hero is the deserved favourite in the Derby and will be tough to beat.

Jackson: I like the sound of Another Dollar in the Rosehill Gold Cup. Not sure about its form but on name itself, it's bound to get up.
