Japanese stayer Mer De Glace has stormed home to win the 2019 Caulfield Cup.
The five-year-old claimed its first victory on Australian soil as it raced home ahead of Vow and Declare and Mirage Dancer.
The Hisashi Shimizu-trained horse found itself stuck towards the back of the field, forcing itself out wide to find a run as they hit the back straight.
Mer De Glace would then fly down the outside, racing up to favourite Finche and he would not be troubled from there.
The international raiders have started their assault on the spring carnival.

The win was its sixth straight win, which continues the stayer's unbeaten run in 2019.
Winning jockey Damien Lane was thrilled with the result, revealing that he was forced to heavily persuade the connections to bring the horse down from Japan.

"He's not much to look it but he's a tradesman, he keeps turning up and winning," Lane said post-race.
"Not many horses win five on the bounce in Japan because they are weight for age.
"I just begged them to come because I knew 55kg was a winnable weight,
"So I am just forever grateful that they brought him down."
The win earns the connections $3,000,000, whilst owners of Vow and Declare and Mirage Dancer will take him $700,000 and $350,000 respectively.
