Anamoe has triumphed in the 2022 edition of the Cox Plate, winning the famous weight-for-age race at Moonee Valley.

The four-year-old stallion held off a speedy I'm Thunderstruck, whilst international import El Bodegon rounded out the placings.

With star jockey James McDonald on board, Anamoe was heavily backed heading into the race.

Both horse and jockey delivered on Saturday afternoon.

Sitting in fourth for most of the race, the Goldophin-owned horse pushed into the lead as the field turned the bend, and did not look back for the remaining 200 metres.

Trainer James Cummings was emotional speaking to Channel 7 after the race.

"It's a humbling experience for me. But I'm just grateful that I can be a part of a horse as great as Anamoe," he said.

"The truth is he's just had a gun preparation. A couple of times it hasn't been plain sailing, but my team has come together in phenomenal fashion."

The result is a form of redemption for Anamoe, who finished second in last year's Cox Plate.

Joseph O’Brien-trained Irish horse State Of Rest edged out the then-three-year-old, with the result taken to the stewards.

However, after a 20-minute deliberation, the final finishing order stood.
