If you took some of the $126 on offer on Roch 'N' Horse in the Newmarket Handicap, well done.

The Michael Moroney-trained mare took out the $1.5 million Group 1 at Flemington on Saturday, leaving most tipsters scratching their heads.

Jockey Patrick Moloney earned his first Group 1 victory on the five-year-old which outclassed some far better credentialed competition.

Over 1200m down the Flemington straight, the 17-strong field split in two but it was the group which stayed towards the inside rail that dominated the race.

Roch 'N' Horse had sat just off the speed for most of the race before hitting the front 200m from home and finishing strongly.

The Astrologist, half a length off the winner and September Run, a neck further back, rounded out the placings.

Take a look at the finish below.

"It's massive. My fiancée Jess is down here, I don't think she's ever seen me cry," an emotional Moloney said after the race.

"It's more for my family, they've put a lot of effort in behind the scenes, getting me to where I am. Mum was carting me around to the shows early doors, and dad, this one's as much for dad as it is for me, my biggest supporter, my biggest critic, but he's my best mate.

"The horse today, she was in the zone. She waltzed out of the yard, hard a strut to her... she was so calm and conserved all her energy. Things couldn't have worked out better.

"I said to Mike, 'I reckon we're just going to go down to the fence and just follow the fence, it's as good as anywhere.'

"We got a beautiful cart on the back of [September Run]. I just peeled her out early enough and she just want bang for me.

"Mike's been one of my biggest supporters. He's rewarded me today."

As you can probably imagine, the exotic payouts were pretty juicy.
