World number one Jason Day has become the fifth golfer to pull out of the Olympic Games in Rio over concerns about the Zika virus.

Day's decision comes after four-time major champion Rory McIlroy opted not to take part in the first Olympic golf competition in a century, with both players citing worries about the mosquito-borne Zika virus as the major factor in their decisions.
The 28-year-old previously stated that his family's health would be his first priority when contemplating his appearance in Brazil, and the danger posed by the virus - which has been linked to severe birth defects - has led to his withdrawal from the event.
Fellow Australian Marc Leishman has already pulled out of the competition due to fears about the virus, along with South Africa's Branden Grace, Ireland's Shane Lowry and Great Britain's Graeme McDowell, while Adam Scott, Louis Oosthuizen and Vijay Singh will not compete due to conflicts in their schedules.

Day said: "The reason for my decision is my concerns about the possible trasnmission of the Zika virus and the potential risks that it may present to my wife's future pregnancies and to future members of our family.
"I have always placed my family in front of everything else in my life."
