The 2024 PGA Championship is underway at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville and the leaderboard is starting to take shape.
There are plenty of familiar names at the top through the second round, but there are also some relatively unknown players who are playing up to their level of competition.
American-born golfer Mark Hubbard is among the latter group, shooting 9-under through 36 holes. He registered a 65 in the first round with just one bogey, then delivered a 68 in the second round to finish tied for fourth at the end of the round.
Hubbard enters the weekend with a legitimate shot of winning his first major, trailing Xander Schauffle (-12) by three strokes.

Hubbard is an American professional golfer from Denver, Colorado. He is currently ranked as the 81st best golfer in the world, according to Official World Golf Ranking.
Hubbard turned pro in 2012 in his first season out of college. He has spent time on the Korn Ferry Tour, PGA Tour Canada and Gateway Tour.
Hubbard made his PGA Tour debut in 2015. He has participated in 214 events but has never won on the PGA Tour. He has three top-three finishes and 13 top-10 finishes, according to his PGA Tour bio.
Hubbard has yet to miss a cut in 13 appearances in 2024. He went into this year's PGA Championship in 51st place in the FedEx Cup standings.

Hubbard had only participated in three other major championships prior to the 2024 PGA Championship.
Hubbard missed the cut at the 2020 U.S. Open at Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, New York.
His best finish was T-51 at the 2020 PGA Championship at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco. He also finished 73rd at the 2023 PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, New York.
All that to say, his finish at the 2024 PGA Championship is set to be his best at a major by far.
