Europe have reclaimed the Ryder Cup with a 16.5-11.5 victory over the United States at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club in Rome, Italy.
At the start of play on Sunday, the question was not will Team Europe win but how many would they win by? The US didn't answer that question and instead piled on the pressure early in the singles as they chased down the 10.5-5.5 scoreline from the end of Saturday's play. Had this attitude from the US come to fruition a day earlier, they probably would have retained the Ryder Cup for the first time on European soil in 30 years.
The unofficial winning half-point came on the 16th when Tommy Fleetwood hit the green off the tee after Rickie Fowler found the water. Fleetwood then went on to officially confirm Europe's triumph on 17 as he overcame Fowler with a 3&1 win.
Despite the home-soil advantage, the US were the favourites and many feared Luke Donald had selected a team too young to compete. They proved the critics wrong and stormed to a 4-0 lead after the first session on Friday, something Team Europe had never done. Saturday then saw Europe build on their lead and head into Sunday five points ahead despite a late resurgence by Patrick Cantlay.
The US had themselves in such a hole and the comeback proved to be too little and too late. Europe got the job done against the odds and for the US, the wait to win on European soil goes on.

4:26 pm: Lowry can't quite win the match but he doesn't care. He finishes all square with Spieth and sprints to celebrate with the rest of the European lads.

4:08 pm: An emotional Luke Donald says his team "trusted" him and delivered it for Team Europe this week.
4:04 pm: The half point isn't given until the round is completed but Tommy Fleetwood has guaranteed Europe the Ryder Cup! Fleetwood had two putts to win the hole, he left his first around two feet short Fowler concedes!
Fleetwood goes 2 UP with two to play. That's the half point secured for Europe.

4:02 pm: Spieth follows Lowry! All he had to do was hit the green and instead he has a tricky up and down coming his way. On the 16th, Fleetwood has three shots for the win!
3:59 pm: The nerves got to Lowry on the 17th tee and his iron shot spills down the left of the bank which is a tough up and down from there. Straka has it in his hands on the 18th as he also looks to get up and down.
3:54 pm: Lowry wins the 16th and he gets it to all square with Spieth!
3:52 pm: A horror miss by MacIntyre and Clark gets it all square in the bottom match.
3:50 pm: Imagine teeing off at the 18th of Marco Simone knowing you have a chance at winning your team the Ryder Cup. That's exactly what Straka has done and he's perfectly pinged it down the middle of the fairway.
3:48 pm: Schauffele makes it 10 points for Team USA as he beats Hojgaard 3 & 2!
3:47 pm: Thomas misses a birdie putt by the barest of margins and his match with Straka will go to the 18th. If the Austrian wins that hole, he wins Europe the Ryder Cup.
3:45 pm: A dagger from Fleetwood on 15 and Fowler's approach from the bunker is way further than the Englishman. Advantage Europe in that match.
3:43 pm: Spieth wins the hole in style! He gets back to 1 Up after 15 and stops Lowry's momentum.
3:38 pm: Sepp Straka take a bow! He chips in from 16 for an eagle! That cuts Thomas' lead from two holes to one with two to play.
OUTSTANDING @seppstraka! 🤯#TeamEurope | #RyderCup pic.twitter.com/GwIJzipQpb

3:31 pm: Lowry gets it all square with Spieth and wow wouldn't it be perfect if he was the man to win it for Team Europe? His reaction would be like no other.
3:29 pm: Fitzpatrick can't quite make his putt which puts the pressure on Homa to sink his. He holes it and America lives to see a few more holes!
Way to go, rookie. 🔥 @maxhoma wraps up his first #RyderCup with a point for 🇺🇸#GoUSA pic.twitter.com/zNiBQyorDX

3:26 pm: Back to the 18th where Fitzpatrick can win it for the US with a half. Homa plays a gorgeous chip from the right and the Englishman has to hole the putt to win the Ryder Cup.
3:25 pm: It's a point for Team USA as Koepka finishes off Aberg.
3:16 pm: Those two bottom games have swung in Europe's favour as Fleetwood now doubles his lead over Fowler. Europe knows they only need a half point to take home the Ryder Cup.
3:14 pm: Just what he was after! MacIntyre gets a little bit of breathing room as he gets back to 2 Up against Clark.
3:12 pm: Europe are on the brink of victory! Hatton secures a full point against Harman and the home side leads the US 14-7. The Englishman has gone unbeaten this week winning 3.5 points for his team.

2:56 pm: A superb iron shot off the tee for McIlroy at 17 all but wins it for him against Burns.
2:53 pm: Cantlay finishes off a beautiful week in Rome with a fantastic putt at 17 to beat Rose 2&1. For all the talk surrounding him this week, his professionalism comes out on top.

2:50 pm: McIlroy can't birdie the 16th so he concedes and Burns will head to the 17th tee to continue that match.
2:41 pm: Rose again with the putter! He sinks it from 10+ feet to keep himself one back with two to play. That Ryder Cup experience is invaluable.

2:36 pm: And both of them birdie! Rory protects his lead and heads to the 16th...
2:31 pm: Anything Burns can do... Rory can do better! The American hits a sensational approach but Rory, from a similar distance, lands it inside of him.
2:29 pm: Rose is FIRED UP! He's got another back on Cantlay.
2:27 pm: Rahm's effort is incredibly close from such a distance! Scheffler can't chip in so they share a point. In the end, there was nothing to split the world #1 and #3.

2:24 pm: Scheffler comes in way too hot with his chip and Rahm will have a fantastic chance at stealing a half-point on the 18th!
2:20 pm: Homa has been making those all week but he misses a golden opportunity to go 2 Up on Fitzpatrick.
2:15 pm: Rose can't make his putt and Cantlay doubles his lead. Europe are up in three matches, the US are up in six! It's going to be a little closer than the Europeans would have liked...
2:13 pm: Rahm finds the fairway, Scheffler is off to the right. Can Rahm salvage a half-point for Europe right at the death?
2:09 pm: Rahm's putt is a little further out from Scottie and it narrowly slides right. The American has a chance to putt for the win and he also slides it right. They head to 18...
2:04 pm: Europe adds another point on the board as Hovland beats Morikawa 4&3 on the 15th. The Norwegian has been stunning to watch all week and he's done it again today.

2:00 pm: Scottie and Jon shared the 16th and on the 17th they both find the green.
1:57 pm: Rose is gifted a glorious opportunity to win the 13th against Cantlay and he gets it back to just a one-hole deficit.
1:55 pm: The top match heads to the thrilling 16th and Rahm bombs a drive OVER the flag. Scottie falls short, avoids the bunker but nestles in the rough.
1:51 pm: Wow! Scheffler bounces back against Rahm and takes the lead. These pair over the last few holes or so have been electric.

1:49 pm: MacIntyre is absolutely flying in the final match as he finds himself three up against Clark.
1:44 pm: Rory is on his way to securing a point for Europe and that would be his fourth point this weekend.
1:40 pm: It's an insanely important half-hour or so.
The 15 minute of hope window is open.
— No Laying Up (@NoLayingUp) October 1, 2023
Scheffler ties Rahm and needs to win.
Harman is one down and needs to win.
And if the rest of the board remains the same, the US wins.
Can’t wait to see how dumb this looks in 15 minutes.
1:38 pm: Scheffler's superb tee shot sees him yet again draw all square with Rahm, these two are playing some fantastic golf.
1:35 pm: Harman gets to the ninth green in two and a birdie pulls one back on Hatton. The Englishman was 3 Up after four but the gap is now down to one.
1:26 pm: Spieth is ticking along nicely in his match against Lowry, he's 3 Up!

1:23 pm: Scheffler has a must-make at the 13th... and he can't! Rahm retakes the lead.
1:19 pm: MacIntyre goes 1 Up on the US Open champion in the final match. The current projected score is 17.5-10.5 in Europe's favour.
1:14 pm: Six birdies in 11 holes for Hovland and that's the reason he's three up on Morikawa.
1:10 pm: Burns gets an eagle just before the turn and again pulls one back on McIlroy.
1:01 pm: The crowd sings Tommy's name as he goes 1 Up in his match with Fowler. Back to the first game and Scheffler takes the lead against Rahm.
12:55 pm: JT is FIRED up! He makes a fantastic putt to keep his lead over Straka.
12:51 pm: Jon Rahm how?! That is out of this world good.

12:45 pm: Thomas wins the third hole with a six-foot birdie and goes 1 Up against Straka.
12:36 pm: McIlroy's brilliant tee shot puts him in a great position and he uses it well to get back to three up against Burns.
12:30 pm: Cantlay continues to build on his lead as his putting proves the difference against Rose.
12:24 pm: Hovland's putting has been hot this week but he can't make it this time and concedes one to Morikawa. He still has a one-hole lead.
12:21 pm: Harman isn't quite at it today as he falls three back of Hatton who is taking full advantage of the European momentum this afternoon.
12:15 pm: McIlroy responds instantly to take back his two-hole lead against Burns.
12:11 pm: Morikawa gets within five feet for a birdie at the seventh. Hovland had to make his putt from twice that distance to stay 3 Up and of course, he did. He's been superb for Europe this weekend.
12:01 pm: Koepka starts as he means to go on with a win on the first. Aberg will be disappointed with his bogey.
11:59 am: Burns gets one back against Rory to halve his lead.
11:48 am: Scheffler pulls one back on Rahm at the sixth. But there's MORE blue on the board as Hatton wins the first against Harman.
11:45 am: Sensational views out there today.

11:42 am: A little stat for you from this year's Ryder Cup tournament: Teams that take a two-hole lead have gone on to win their match 80% of the time.
11:40 am: It's an incredible start for the Europeans, one that the US desperately needed. They lead in every match but one. Both Hovland and Rahm lead by two and you start to think, how many points are Europe going to win by today?
11:27 am: More blue but also red on the board! And guess who? It's Cantlay again leading the charge for the US. Scheffler struggles with the putter and Rahm regains the lead in that top match, elsewhere it's Hovland who takes the lead against Morikawa.
11:25 am: Blue on the board as Rory takes a 1 Up lead against Burns. The American's tee shot got him in trouble straight from the off and couldn't recover.
11:16 am: Scheffler ties it up after Rahm found trouble on and around the green.
11:15 am: Cantlay surprises everyone and can't make the birdie putt, the crowd goes wild.
11:12 am: As the fourth match begins, Burns pushes his drive to the right in the rough and McIlroy bombs one up the middle.
11:07 am: Scheffler can't make his birdie putt for the win at the second meanwhile Cantlay's approach shot gives him a wonderful opportunity for his fourth birdie in a row after last night's spectacular finish.
11:00 am: Despite the immense pressure, Cantlay finds the fairway with ease. Justin Rose stays as composed as ever with a fairway-finding drive.
10:58 am: Cantlay has just come out to the first tee and is greeted with loud boos and a sea of European hats being sarcastically waved.
10:55 am: Hovland's birdie putt misses left but Morikawa can't take advantage to go 1 Up. That stays all square through the first.
10:51 am: Rahm sinks it! He goes 1 Up against Scheffler.
10:50 am: The second pairing gets underway and much to the delight of the European fans, Morikawa pulls it left. Hovland then gets the home crowd off its feet with a fairway-finding 3-wood.
10:46 am: Scheffler leaves his putt short for a tap-in par giving Rahm the chance to go 1 Up with a birdie-putt.
10:41 am: Rahm's approach shot from 163 hits the green with a chance for birdie. Scottie had just under 140 but leaves it outside of Rahm so he'll be putting first.
10:35 am: The first singles match has begun. Scottie's drive is exactly what he'd have dreamt about last night as it sits in the middle of the fairway. Rahm's is a carbon copy but a few yards short of the American.
10:32 am: Scottie Scheffler is out on the first tee early and Jon Rahm follows a minute or two later. The crowd erupts and that first tee is rocking! The final day of the 2023 Ryder Cup is upon us.

10:15 am: We've already had a few thunderclaps to start the day at the first tee, we're now getting close to some golf action! The excitement, and the nerves, are building.
9:50 am: The first pairing gets underway in a little over half an hour and it should be a great one. It's the World Number Three Jon Rahm going up against World Number One Scottie Scheffler as the US look to build some momentum in their hopes of pulling off a miracle comeback.
9:35 am: Good morning! Welcome to The Sporting News' live blog of the 2023 Ryder Cup — Day 3. Europe are four points from winning the trophy with 12 singles sessions ahead of us – will they triumph or can the US produce a glorious comeback?
