It's been anything but amateur hour at Augusta National for Neal Shipley.
While the weekend hasn't been kind to him, the first two rounds at the 2024 Masters were. At 3-over par heading into Saturday's Round 3, Shipley found himself on the right side of the cut line — and the only amateur still in the field.
However, Shipley's dream to win the green jacket came to an end on Saturday, with a disastrous 8-over effort that left him 18 shots off the lead. At the very least, he should be in line to earn a nice paycheck for the experience, right?
Not quite.
Shipley is playing for the love of the game at Augusta National, whether he likes it or not.
Here is everything you need to know about how payouts work for amateurs at the Masters.

How much money will Neal Shipley make at the Masters?
Zip, zero, zilch, nil, nada.
Shipley will undoubtedly make some memories but no money for his work over the weekend. That is because amateurs cannot make money in professional tournaments.
After a poor Round 3 showing, Shipley's chance at earning any cash likely went out the window anyway. Payouts are only for those that finish in the top 50, and with 60 players making the cut, Shipley is on the outside looking in at the $20 million purse.
Despite the lack of monetary gain, Shipley won't be walking away empty-handed.
Since he was the only amateur to make the cut after 36 holes, he will leave Augusta with the Silver Cup — the award given to the best amateur.
