Golf's most prestigious tournament - the Masters - is fast approaching.

Hideki Matsuyama was a shock winner last tournament, with the world's best players set to fight for the coveted green jacket in 2022.

When do the Masters start?

The Masters starts on Thursday, April 7, and will finish on Sunday, April 10.

How to watch the Masters in Australia

The Masters will be shown on Fox Sports and Kayo, as well as Nine's secondary channel Gem and streaming service 9Now.

Live final round coverage will take place on Monday, April 11 from 4.00am AEST.

Where is the Masters held?

The Masters is held at Augusta National Golf Club. 

Augusta is in Georgia, about 250km east of Atlanta, and has hosted the Masters every year since 1934.

The par score for a round is 72, with the distance of the course adding up to 7,475 yards (6,385 kilometeres).

Masters odds 2022

It is a typically tight betting field for this year's Masters tournament.

Jon Rahm has the shortest odds ($12) but is far from being a clear favourite.

Australian player Cameron Smith ($13), Justin Thomas ($13), Dustin Johnson ($15), and Collin Morikawa ($15) round out the top five.

Who won the Masters in 2021?

Hideki Matsuyama won the last edition of the Masters, edging out Will Zalatoris by one shot.

He notably became the first-ever Japanese professional golfer to win a men's major golf championship.

The 30-year-old is currently the No. 11 ranked player in the world.

Masters purse 2022

The purse at the 2022 Masters is expected to be the same as last year: US$11.5 million (AU$15.1 million).

Based on that total, the winner's share of the prize money would be $2.07 million (AU$2.72 million)

Who has won the most Masters titles?

Jack Nicklaus has won more Masters titles than any other golfer with six. 

Arnold Palmer and Tiger Woods have each won the prestigious tournament four times, with Gary Player, Jimmy Demaret, Nick Faldo, Phil Mickelson, and Sam Snead claiming three green jackets. 

Nine players, including Ben Crenshaw, Bernhard Langer, Ben Hogan, Bubba Watson, Seve Ballesteros, and Tom Watson have won the Masters twice. 

How many Australians have won the Masters?

Just one. That was Adam Scott, who scored a remarkable victory in the rain with the sun setting in 2013. 

Having come so close to claiming a major title, Scott edged out Angel Cabrera in the second play-off hole.
