Jordan Spieth made a lot of noise during the 2015 PGA Tour season. He won back-to-back majors and earned top-five finishes in the other two.
At that point, it was thought that the Speith, then a 21-year-old phenom, would easily be able to do something that few golfers have been able to do throughout the sport's history: notch a career Grand Slam.
Seven years later, he is still vying to hoist the Wanamaker Trophy for the first time.
Spieth will get another crack at winning the PGA Championship in the 2022 event. He will tee off in a marquee group with Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy the first two days of the tournament, and the pressure will be on him to match the performance of his highly successful counterparts.
Here's a look at Spieth's history at the PGA Championship and the list of players he will join as Grand Slam winners if he can finally win it.

Golfers to win career Grand Slam
Only five golfers in history have completed the modern Grand Slam (since the inception of the Masters in 1934). Nine Grand Slams total have officially been completed, as both Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus have achieved the feat three times.
Woods is also the only golfer to win all four Grand Slam events consecutively, though they didn't occur in the same calendar year. Achieving this feat is now known as a "Tiger Slam."
The players to complete the modern Grand Slam, along with how many majors they have won during their respective careers:
Golfer | Grand Slams | Major wins |
Jack Nicklaus | 3 | 18 |
Tiger Woods | 3 | 15 |
Ben Hogan | 1 | 9 |
Gary Player | 1 | 9 |
Gene Sarazen | 1 | 7 |
It should also be noted that Bobby Jones completed the original Grand Slam, which consisted of the U.S. Amateur, the U.S. Open, the British Open and the Amateur Championship.

Jordan Spieth major championship history
Jordan Spieth has won three major championships since joining the PGA Tour. Since 2013, he has participated in 35 majors and has logged 11 top-10 finishes. Each of those top-10 finishes has also been a top-five finish.
The three major wins, listed in chronological order.
2015 Masters Tournament
- Final score to par: -18
- Margin of victory: 4 shots
- Runners-up: Phil Mickelson and Justin Rose
Spieth's win at the 2015 Masters was never in doubt. He grabbed a lead after the first 18 holes that he would never relinquish. He shot 8 under par in the first round and went on to shoot 18 under for the tournament. That tied Jack Nicklaus for the tournament's all-time scoring record until Dustin Johnson shot 20 under during the 2020 tournament.
2015 U.S. Open
- Final score to par: -5
- Margin of victory: 1 shot
- Runners-up: Dustin Johnson and Louis Oosthuizen
Spieth followed up his 2015 Masters win with a victory at the U.S. Open that year. He was tied for the 54-hole lead with Johnson, Branden Grace and Jason Day, which made for stiff competition on the final day. Ultimately, Grace and Day both fell off the pace while Johnson went toe-to-toe with Spieth.
It looked as if Spieth and Johnson would need a playoff to decide the winner, but Johnson missed a potential tournament-winning 12-foot eagle putt on the 18th and sent the ensuing 3-foot birdie putt slightly past the hole on the left. That gifted Spieth the victory.
2017 British Open
- Final score to par: -6
- Margin of victory: 3 shots
- Runner-up: Matt Kuchar
Spieth was tied for or alone in first at every 18-hole landmark. Matt Kuchar was his main sparring partner as they were tied after 18. Spieth took a two-stroke lead after 36 and lengthened it to three after 54. It remained at three after both shot 3-under 69s on the final day.
