Day conceded his match against Pat Perez in the first match of round robin play in Group 3 after falling three holes down in six holes.

"My back is fine, I'm 100 percent healthy, everything is totally fine," Day said, via Golf Channel, while wiping away tears, explaining that his mind is not on golf while his mother battles lung cancer.

Day confirmed that his mother is undergoing surgery Friday to remove a 3-4 centimeter mass in her lungs, and he was unable to focus on golf. He plans to be with his mom, who has been in the United States, during her surgery.

"I just need some time away with her to make sure everything goes well," Day said. "She is the reason I'm playing golf today."

Day's father passed away when he was just 12 years old due to stomach cancer.

Many thought Day withdrew due to his troublesome back that cost him the entire fall series, but he appears to be healthy. Obviously family is more important than golf given what he's currently going through.
