LIV Golf has officially made its debut on Australian shores, with LIV Golf Adelaide beginning on Friday.

The Saudi-backed series - which has created quite a stir in the golfing and wider sporting community - is holding its inaugural tournament down under at the Grange Golf Club.

Aussie star Cameron Smith is competing, along with other top former PGA golfers including Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka.

The inaugural LIV Golf Adelaide event is being broadcast live and free-to-air in Australia on Channel 7.

Aussie golf fans are able to watch five hours of action on each of the three days.

The tour's signature format - 12 teams and 48 golfers playing across 54 holes with staggered starts and no cuts - is being used for LIV Golf Adelaide.

Shotgun starts - where players commence from different holes - are scheduled for 11:45 am local time (12:15 pm AEST) on Friday and Saturday, with the Sunday session beginning later at 11:35 am (12:05 pm AEST).
