2022 Barbasol Tournament: Champion Trace course design

Champion Trace is a beautiful, expansive lakeside course that runs adjacent to a horse farm. Its 76 bunkers and hilly greens provide some challenges, but its wide fairways more than make up for it. A total of 25 players shot -15 or better at the Barbasol last year, with 14 finishing -18 or better. Seamus Power, who will not play the event this year, finished -21 and beat J.T. Boston in a shootout to win last year’s championship.

Barbasol Championship 2022 betting preview: Odds, best bets, values, and props

Barbasol Championship: Best bet

Chris Gotterup +1800

Gotterup has made an instant impact on the pro circuit, seemingly destined to be the next big name in golf. The reigning collegiate player of the year comes into the weekend fresh off a 66 (T4) at the John Deere Classic and looks poised to continue his ascent toward TOUR membership. The 22-year-old Oklahoma product (by way of his home-state Rutgers) has been a tee-to-green force, driving and chipping his way to top-43 finishes in four of his five pro events. If Gotterup’s putting gets hot this weekend, he could take down a massive win.

Best value to win 2022 Barbasol Championship

Chesson Hadley +3000

Hadley has been on fire lately, thanks in large part to his fantastic putting. On the heels of two top-ten finishes — solo fifth at the Travelers and T10 at the John Deere — the 34-year-old might finally notch his second tournament win since joining the TOUR in 2014. Hadley demonstrated his diverse skill set in the final round at Deere Run last week, hitting nine of 14 fairways and 14 of 18 greens. He’s a superb bet at +3000.

Best value to finish top 20

Adam Svensson +170

Svensson has been solid but unspectacular this season, so he’s worth a bet to place top 20 but probably not deserving of an outright winner wager at +2500. The Canadian has seven top 26 finishes in ‘21-22, and he’s finished top 25 in each of his past three tournaments. He finished -6 at the RBC Canadian Open, -8 at the Travelers Championship, and -11 at last week’s John Deere Classic. That’s a strong run. Six consecutive cashes seems pretty impressive, too. Consider Svensson +170 to finish in the top 20, or -295 to make the cut if you want a really sure thing.

Best bet to miss the cut

Kevin Streelman +175

A 21-year veteran of the pro circuit, Streelman will likely garner some action this weekend. However, he seems to be in a serious rut when it comes to driving and approach shots. Streelman has just one top-25 finish in 23 events this season, and he’s missed the cut in four of his past eight tournaments. Fade Streelman, and consider betting him to miss another cut in what could be a very hot (and bothered) weekend for the Illinois native.

Top props

Round 1 Three-ball: Hadley (+120) over Mark Hubbard (+120) and Joel Stalter (+450)

We already have Hadley as one of our top picks to win this tournament, so we’ll take the extra value we get from this three-ball prop. This way, even if Hadley fails to net us the outright win, he could very well pay us off by simply beating two players who have been inferior over the past few months. Hubbard has one top-20 finish since the end of April, and Stalter — who is listed +40000 to win outright — shouldn’t even be included in a prop.

Golfer Matchups: Gotterup (-120) over Streelman (+100)

Gotterup’s all-around game has been much more consistent than Streelman’s this season, especially of late. Expect youth to prevail in this pairing prop. Take the money and run.
