How are players selected for golf in the Olympics? Qualification process, explained

A total of 120 golfers – split evenly across the men's and women's competitions – will be in action in Paris.

Host nation France is guaranteed at least one quota place per competition, with the remaining slots decided by the Olympic Golf Rankings.

The top 15 ranked players automatically secure a spot at Le Golf National. There is a maximum of four athletes per country, though.

The remaining players are then selected, as long as their nation does not already have two players inside the top 15.

Who will represent Australia in golf at the 2024 Olympic Games?

Men's competition

Jason Day and Min Woo Lee have been confirmed to play for Australia.

It marks an Olympic debut for both Day and Lee, ranked No. 24 and No. 36 respectively.

Day was eligible for Rio 2016 but declined the opportunity, citing family reasons.

"I’m looking forward to it. I think I made a bit of a mistake not going down to Rio, even though part of it was family related," the 2015 PGA Championship winner told media this year after committing to the Olympics.

"I kind of missed out on that, and I probably should have gone. But if I get the opportunity, I’m looking forward to going."

Lee, meanwhile is a rising star of Australian golf.

He has won four professional tournaments and gets his first shot at the Olympics in 2024.

Women's competition

Hannah Green and Minjee Lee will represent Australia again at the Olympics.

The pair – who both sit inside the top 10 in the world rankings – featured at Tokyo 2020, with Green securing a top-five finish.

Green has won five events and one major on the LPGA Tour, while Lee has picked up 10 tournament wins and two major triumphs in her career.

Lee is notably the sister of Min Woo Lee, who is featuring in the men's competition.
