French Open 2020: Mixed results for Aussies as Marc Polmans through to second round image

After the disappointing  elimination of Alex de Minaur in the first round of this year's French Open, it was another day of mixed results for the Aussies at Roland Garros on Tuesday night (AEST).

Marc Polmans was able to pull off an impressive four-set victory (6-3 6-2 3-6 6-3) against Frenchman Ugo Humbert - but it wasn't so happy elsewhere.

Alexei Popyrin went down in straight sets (6-4 6-4 7-6) to Lloyd Harris, while cult hero John Millman also bowed out in emphatic fashion against 17th seed Pablo Carreno Busta (6-3 6-2 7-5).

It leaves Australia with just one hope in the men's singles draw at Roland Garros, with Nick Kyrgios sitting out the event due to COVID-19.

Polmans will take on 20th seed Cristian Garin on Thursday night (AEST) as he looks to continue to fly the Aussie flag abroad.

On the women's side of the draw, Dasha Gavrilova and Astra Sharma are the two remaining hopes after they both won their respective first-round matches.

Both women will play on Wednesday night (AEST).

In other news from the first round, 4th seed Stefanos Tsitsipas was forced to come from behind against Spaniard Jaume Munar, winning 4-6 2-6 6-1 6-4 6-4.

Novak Djokovic got off to an impressive start with a straight sets win over Mikael Ymer (6-0 6-2 6-3), while Rafael Nadal cruised through in straight sets as well at the court he has dominated his entire career.
