Formula 1 has continued its push into America, announcing that Las Vegas will be hosting a night race in 2023.

The race will be 14 turns, running for 3.8 miles (6.12km), slated to be held in November of next year.

This is the most recent in a number of steps to integrate Formula 1 into the American market, with a race in Miami also announced in recent weeks and the long-standing United States Grand Prix in Austin

While this is not the first time the sport has ventured to Sin City, it will be the first time a race has been held on the famous Las Vegas Strip.

Announced by Formula 1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali, as well as Liberty Media President and CEO Greg Maffei, the vision for a Vegas F1 race is a high-octane event in one of the world's premier entertainment hubs.

“This is an incredible moment for Formula 1 that demonstrates the huge appeal and growth of our sport with a third race in the US. Las Vegas is a destination known around the world for its excitement, hospitality, thrills, and of course, the famous Strip,” Domenicali said.

“There is no better place for Formula 1 to race than in the global entertainment capital of the world and we cannot wait to be here next year.”

Formula 1 has been receiving noted success in the American market in recent times, spurred in part by the Netflix series "Drive to Survive", and this new event is an attempt to capitalise on this.

The Las Vegas Formula 1 event will be run over 50 laps, featuring three straights, a cornering section, and a chicane, with top speeds on the track expected to reach 212mph (342km/h).

Interestingly, this became the third American course on the Formula 1 schedule, despite the absence of any American drivers.
