West Germany claimed a momentous World Cup title in 1954. And it did so in about as dramatic a fashion as possible, overcoming a two-goal disadvantage to beat Ferenc Puskas and the mighty Hungarians.
Hungary took a two-goal lead in the opening eight minutes. The West Germans brought it back to 2-2 within 10 minutes. And Helmut Rahn nabbed a goal in the 84th minute to give West Germany the Jules Rimet Trophy.

The West Germans almost made another bit of history back in 1986, doing everything in their power to overcome the might of Diego Maradona and Argentina.
Karl-Heinz Rumenigge and Rudi Voller nabbed goals eight minutes apart to level against La Albiceleste. However, Jorge Burrachaga's winner ensured it was the Argentinians holding the trophy when it was all said and done.
