The Matildas face one final hit-out before the Paris Olympics when they come up against Canada in a pre-tournament friendly.

It will be a stern but important test for the Matildas against the reigning gold medallists, as Australia looks to gain a medal in the football tournament at the Olympics for the first time ever.

Coach Tony Gustavsson should be picking a strong side, as he looks to finalise his starting side for the first group stage match later this month.

Matildas vs Canada history

The two countries have faced off a fair bit in recent times, with Australia and Canada locking horns three times in 2023.

The first came at last year's World Cup, where the Matildas needed to win to progress to the Round of 16 at their home World Cup; they did it in emphatic style, trouncing Canada 4-0 and sending them home in the process.

However, Canada got revenge later in the year in back-to-back friendlies in Canada, winning 5-0 and 1-0 in December, though the Matildas played rotated lineups for these matches.

Canada will also be at the Olympics, and will play New Zealand, France and Colombia in Group A.
