What does AGO IERI, OGGI, SEMPRE mean? Italian to English translation

Milan and Roma will both sport a special patch with the words 'AGO IERI, OGGI, SEMPRE' on their respective jerseys.

This translates to 'AGO YESTERDAY, TODAY, ALWAYS', and is a tribute to former Italian footballer Agostino Di Bartolomei.

Di Bartolomei passed away on May 30, 1994, with Friday's match to act as a 30-year anniversary.

He took his own life after battling with clinical depression.

Di Bartolomei played for Roma and Milan, along with stints at Cesena, Salernitana and a loan spell with Lanerossi.

Primarily playing as a central midfielder or sweeper, he secured one Serie A title and won the Coppa Italia three times with Roma.

He is regarded as one of the best Italian players to have never received a senior cap with the national team.

What does AC stand for in AC Milan?

AC stands for Associazione Calcio, which translates to Football Association in English.

Interestingly, the club's full name is Associazione Calcio Milan, with the anglicised spelling of the Lombardy capital used, rather than Milano.

This is a nod to the club's English history, as they were founded in 1899 by English expatriate Herbert Kilpin.
