Western Sydney Wanderers are reportedly poised to sign Australian attacker Chris Ikonomidis as part of a massive million-dollar deal.
Ikonomidis is off contract at Perth Glory, who wanted to re-sign the 26-year-old, and has also attracted interest from Melbourne Victory.
The Wanderers have seemingly won the race to sign the 14-time Socceroo however and will flex their financial muscle to ensure Ikonomidis dons the red and black next season.
"He's played his last game for Perth Glory and it's imminent he'll be signing a million-dollar-plus contract at Western Sydney Wanderers," Declan Kelly, who is a former member of Glory's advisory board, told SENTrack.
"That's the number that's been shown around. He's 26 years of age. He's at the top of the game you'd say. A wonderful player.
"He's been three years here at Perth Glory and he has played previously at Western Sydney Wanderers on loan during the 2018 season. He is a Sydney boy.
"From what I'm led to believe, by A-League standards or anyone's standards, it is top money.
"They (Wanderers) have a lot of backers. They've backed Carl Robinson as coach. They've had mixed fortunes since Tony Popovic left...and they're very keen to start rivalling crosstown rivals Sydney again.
"I expect they'll have more signings as well but not good news for Glory but not totally unexpected."
Ikonomidis has been with Perth since 2018 and returned from an ACL injury this past season in promising fashion as he scored four goals across nine appearances.
The 26-year-old scored five goals during a 10-game loan stint with the Wanderers in 2018 and the club will be banking on him replicating that form going into next season.
Western Sydney once again missed out on the finals this year and look ready to splash the cash to reverse their fortunes on the pitch.
Robinson has signed three players so far this off-season but has seen a number of stars depart - including top goalscorer Bruce Kamau.
Sporting News also recently revealed that the Wanderers have failed in their bid to re-sign midfielder Jordan Mutch, who is now poised to join another A-League club.
