Petulant Portugal star Cristiano Ronaldo invented a new way to decline an interview when he threw a reporter’s microphone into a lake before the Euro 2016 clash with Hungary.

The incident happened during Portugal’s team walk after the reporter from Portugese news channel CMTV dared to ask Ronaldo if he was ready for the game.

Ronaldo, who isn’t a fan of the network, grabbed the microphone and threw it in the lake without breaking stride.

The stunned reporter quickly retreated as the rest of the Portugal team continued on their way.

The Real Madrid striker’s brace in Portugal’s 3-3 draw with Hungary didn’t improve the testy superstar’s mood.

With the result Portugal qualified for the last 16 but Ronaldo snubbed the rest of the media after winning man of the match.

Instead of fielding questions from the media as per tournament rules the 31-year-old gave a statement.

“It’s a privilege to be named man of the match. But our priority was to win the match. We failed to do that,” he said.

“The bottom line was we wanted to qualify. We thought we were going to qualify in second place but Iceland scored in the last minute, so we placed third. We wanted to win, but we didn’t.

“We played a good match – it was a little insane, first they scored and then we did.

“I’m happy because the team was in dire straits as we were down three times and had to chase down our opponents to score to ensure we did not go home.”

Although the media shouted questions towards the star after his brief statement, Ronaldo simply said that it was a decision down to Portugal’s media officer: “It’s not up to me,” he said.
