The 2022 Europa League features several continental powers as the tournament moves to the quarter-final stage.

Among the teams in the quarter-finals are Spanish giants Barcelona, storied Scottish side Rangers, France's Lyon, and Italy's Atalanta. The English Premier League's West Ham United needed extra time to get past Sevilla, which would have played in their home stadium in Seville had they reached the final.

RB Leipzig, seen by many as one of the favorites, are in the quarter-finals by default. They were scheduled to face Spartak Moscow in the Round of 16, but the series was cancelled after UEFA suspended all Russian teams from their competitions following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The draw for the quarter-final stage will be followed immediately by the draw for the semi-finals.

Here is all the information you need on the rest of the competition.

Can teams from the same country meet in quarter-finals?

From the quarter-finals onwards, there is no "country protection" as UEFA phrases it. In other words, clubs from the same league can be drawn against each other. The only two quarter-final teams from the same nation hail for Germany: RB Leipzig and Eintracht Frankfurt can face off in the quarters.

Given the variety of teams that feature in the Europa League, a draw pitting two teams from the same country is not common. It didn't happen in either of the last two seasons.

The last time it happened was in the 2018-19 competition. Valencia were drawn against Villarreal at the quarter-final stage, and they won 5-1 on aggregate.

Is the Europa League quarter-final draw seeded?

There is no seeding at this stage of the competition.

Team were seeded in the previous rounds, depending on how they qualified (Ex. group winners, group runners-up, playoff winners or Champions League qualifiers), but from the quarter-finals onwards any team can be drawn against any other team.

Seeding was taken into account in the Round of 16, with group winners in one pot drawn against the teams that qualified through the knockout round playoffs.
