Matchweek 16 of the Premier League will wrap up with a clash between Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle.

After strong starts to their respective campaigns, both sides have now dropped out of the top four.

Both teams are also struggling with significant injury lists and come into this match following disappointing losses.

Will it be Spurs or Newcastle who take the initiative on Monday morning? The Sporting News previews the encounter.

    Tottenham vs. Newcastle prediction, odds

    • Result: Tottenham win (2.23)
    • Score prediction: Tottenham 2-0 (14.00)

This a tricky clash to predict, with both sides in lacklustre form.

Tottenham have failed to win any of their last five games in the league, most recently throwing away a one-goal lead and losing 2-1 to West Ham.

With the honeymoon phase of his tenure seemingly over, Ange Postecoglou needs a response from his Spurs team if they are to be top-four contenders this season.

Newcastle's overall form is better — including wins over Manchester United and Chelsea in the past fortnight — but their away record is appalling.

Eddie Howe's side have won just one of their last nine matches as the visitors. Now, they face a potentially challenging trip to north London just days after a 3-0 defeat to Everton.

With both sides low on confidence, it could be a cagey affair. However, we're predicting Tottenham's attacking approach will wear down an undermanned Newcastle side.

    Tottenham vs. Newcastle best bet

    • Pick: Pedro Porro: Over 0.5 shots on target
    • Odds: 2.15 (Unibet)

While Tottenham's fluidity has taken a hit following James Maddison's injury, their attacking nature hasn't changed.

Pedro Porro suits this system perfectly, with the right-back encouraged to progress up the field.

He picked up the assist for his side's only goal against West Ham and thrives in advanced positions.

Should Newcastle be difficult to break down initially, we can expect Porro to fire some warning shots from the edge of the box.

    Tottenham vs. Newcastle outside bet

    • Pick: Draw/Tottenham (Half Time/Full Time)
    • Odds: 6.25 (Unibet)

Generally speaking, Newcastle have been solid this season defensively, but some slip-ups have proven costly.

As they look to amend their concerning away from, plenty of effort will go into ensuring they don't concede early against Tottenham, which could make for a cagey first half.

However, as we saw in their losses to Everton and Bournemouth, Newcastle have shown a tendency to collapse in the second half of away matches.

Postecoglou will not change his attacking approach, and Spurs have enough quality upfront — even without Maddison — to find a late breakthrough and secure the win.
