The Olyroos shocked the world on Thursday night after beating Argentina 2-0 but one person who wasn't surprised was coach Graham Arnold.
The former Sydney FC manager has long been claiming his side were capable of shocking the world building up to the Olympics and his prediction came true in stunning circumstances.
Lachlan Wales opened the scoring against Argentina in the first half before Marco Tilio came off the bench to seal the result with a superb late goal.
Arnold is well known for his focus on the mind and his players' mentality with the coach rewarded for a positive philosophy on Thursday night.
"Nobody would have given us a chance apart from us. I've been visualising this performance for the last couple of weeks, I even visualised the score," Arnold said in his post-match press conference.
"I believe in these boys and I believe so much in them that I'm not happy with our overall performance.
"I was happy with the work rate, the energy, but at times we turned over the ball too simply and too easily. We need to improve as we go on, and we will.
"That's our second win this century. We won one game in 2004. It's a great win, but we've done nothing yet. It's three points, we're off to a great start, the first win, but the important thing is improvement."
Along with his own visualisations, Arnold drilled a positive mantra into his players and made sure they weren't distracted by the calibre of their opponents.
"We didn't mention the name of the opposition, it's all about us," he said.
"Sometimes when you mention a nation like Argentina's name, everyone just starts thinking of the players, Diego Maradona, Lionel Messi and Copa America champions.
"It was more about focusing on ourselves for the last week and making sure all the players knew their roles, their jobs and building a lot of belief in the players that we could go out there and put in a good performance and win the game."
Goalscorer Wales was a late call-up for Tokyo but found himself starting against Argentina and clearly had the mindset Arnold was looking for.
"We always believed in what we wanted to achieve. We got here early and had a really good training camp," Wales told Channel Seven post-match.
"We always believed in Arnie's philosophy and we use words like 'belief'. Believe it, receive it. And it happened. It's a dream come true for all the boys."
