After falling short in the A-League Men's grand final last season, Sydney FC have pulled no punches in their first hit out since that defeat.
In the Sky Blues' first pre-season match on Saturday they proved far too strong for Macarthur FC as they claimed a comprehensive 5-0 win.
Steve Corica's side opened the scoring after just two minutes through Bobo, who claimed a second goal in the 19th minute.
New signing Elvis Kamsoba made it 3-0 just after half-time in an impressive performance before substitute Adam Le Fondre bagged a four-minute brace in the final 20 minutes to wrap up a big victory.
Sydney lost to Melbourne City in last season's grand final 3-1, while Macarthur finished sixth before losing 2-0 against City in the semi-finals.
Considering the Sky Blues were without a number of key players, this pre-season win is a promising early sign for the club.
"I was very pleased with the performance and fitness of the boys," Corica said post-match.
"We still have some way to go to be at our peak but what we've been working on in training, we put into practice in the game today.
"It was good to give some players a run and we still have the likes of Milos Ninkovic, Anthony Caceres, Trent Buhagiar, Rhyan Grant, Michael Zullo and some other young boys to come back in."
Speaking recently on the The Football Coaching Life Podcast, Corica also opened up on the origins of his 'Bimbi' nickname as he prepares for his fourth season as Sydney FC's head coach.
"George Cyrus was the one that gave it to me at the AIS. At the time I had quite good hair and they said I looked like a guy from La Bamba, Ritchie Valens," Corica said.
"From La Bamba it got shortened to La Bimbi and then it just got cut short to Bimbi. So he gave me that nickname when I was 16 years old and to be honest, some of the boys still call me that now when I'm coaching. It's a bit embarrassing."
