Despite a sensational year that's only recently seen her score three goals in two games against football giants Brazil, Matildas superstar Sam Kerr hasn't been named as one of the final three candidates for FIFA's Best Women's Player award.

Kerr, who plays her club football in America and Australia, was beaten to a spot in the top three by Venezuelan striker Deyna Castellanos, American midfielder Carli Lloyd, and young Dutch star Leike Martens
The 24-year-old was recently named one of Australia’s Footballers of the Year by the PFA alongside Aaron Mooy while she also took out the Julie Dolan Medal for best W-League player for the 2016/17 season.
Kerr is the current leading scorer in the National Women's Soccer League in the US with her 16 goals for Sky Blues FC putting her four clear of the next highest scorers.
Her exclusion from FIFA's final three has inevitably sparked outrage and not just from Australians either, with plenty of Americans chiming in too.
I think there must be some sort of mistake 😳 #rigged

Going to need someone to walk me through how @samkerr1 is NOT on short list for FIFA player of the year... Dumbfounded right now 🤔

Hey @samkerr1, know this: 1) you deserved to be in the top three. 2) be patient, the whole world WILL know your name. 3) you're the best

As a fan-voted award, Kerr was always likely to struggle with votes often cast with nation rather than sheer quality in mind.
